The made-to-order process turns a formal room brief into installed furniture through fixed stages: drawings, carving, gilding, finishing, packing and installation. How does the made-to-order process work?
The made-to-order classic furniture process runs from measured brief to installed room in a fixed order: drawings, then carving, gilding and finishing, then packing and installation. Modenese Gastone sets approval points at drawings and at samples, so a buyer fixes dimensions, gilding and upholstery before any solid wood is cut.
The sequence protects both sides. Drawings lock the proportion to the room; sample approval locks the lacquer, gilding level and upholstery; only then does carving start. Because every piece is cut to the buyer's measurements, the brief needs room sizes, destination country and finish direction from the first message.
Timing follows carving depth, gold-leaf work, marble and the shipping route rather than a fixed catalogue date, so the workshop confirms a schedule once drawings and samples are agreed. What are the stages of a commission?
A made-to-order commission moves through six stages, from a first brief to installation on site. Each stage has a clear output, so a buyer of a Baroque bedroom or an Empire dining room always knows what has been settled before the next stage begins.
2. Drawings
Modenese Gastone draws each piece to the room. The buyer approves Baroque or Empire proportion and exact dimensions before any wood is cut.
3. Samples
Lacquer colour, gilding level, marble and upholstery are shown as samples. Sign-off here fixes the finish across the whole set.
4. Carving and gilding
Solid walnut, cherry or mahogany is carved by hand; 24k gold leaf is laid over gesso and sealed. Finishing follows in lacquer, aging or beeswax.
5. Packing
Finished pieces are crated for export, protected for the route and documented for worldwide shipping.
6. Installation
The furniture is delivered and set in place, with the Veneto workshop coordinating access and positioning. Open a commission through contact.
